MST3K

A Tribute to Manos is a special production that initially streamed on the Gizmoplex on March 18, 2022 (later rebroadcast on May 11). It is preceded by the first of the Gizmoplex's monthly shorts, Pipeline to the Clouds. The main feature is a presentation of Episode 424. At the point of the original episode's commercial breaks, there is either a Gizmoplex sponsor Madvertisement or an intermission/new host segment. The special is followed by a Q&A featuring Matt McGinnis, Joel Hodgson, Mary Jo Pehl, and Jackey Neyman Jones.

The Special[]

Host Segments[]

Segment One:Pearl Forrester and Synthia welcome viewers to the first monthly live event in the Gizmoplex, with music by Growler. Pearl announces they with be presenting an "episode that's in a class by itself". Synthia reveals her plan in life; studying to learn TV/VCR repair, convinced that she'll clean up when the Blu-ray market collapses. Pearl, on the other hand, wants to be sure people still subscribe to "boutique streaming services" like the Gizmoplex. She then throws it back to Jonah Heston, Crow T. Robot and Tom Servo aboard The Satellite of Love, where they discuss how the MST3K episode was responsible for unleashing "Manos" The Hands of Fate into the world. Crow argues that they should get royalties from all of the "Manos"-related merchandise.

Segment Two: Jonah asks the Bots how they're holding up, but Tom feels he can't go on. Jonah tells him "the way out is through". Crow breaks down crying. Jonah tries to inspire the Bots, but Tom thinks they will go mad and Crow is feeling cosmic dread. Both think a granola bar would help and suspect Jonah is "holding". Jonah goes into "full inspiring speech mode" and turns out to have had granola bars after all.

Segment Three: Jonah wants to discuss where he and the Bots land on the traditional Dungeons & Dragons alignment chart. Tom considers it "another attempt by you humans to place everything into neatly organized categories" and thinks they should all be labelled as "Lawful Nerd". Jonah feels he is Neutral Good because "doing the right thing sometimes means breaking some rules". Tom thinks he is "Lawful Neutral" because he lives "by a strict code just for me, the Tommy Code." Jonah and Tom are both certain that Crow is "just Chaos" or maybe "Chaotic Chaos". Crow is pleased to be "off the grid".

Segment Four: Jonah and the Bots pick the members of their Fantasy Monster Hunter Teams. GPC selects Van Helsing, Simon Belmont and Geralt of Rivia. Jonah chooses the Ghostbusters (minus Venkman because "there's no room for tomfoolery in my gang"), plus Buffy Summers. Tom has chosen the Winchester boys and Kenny G. Crow, so far, has chosen Velma and Shaggy, so Jonah wonders if he's just "assembling Mystery, Inc." But Crow goes with gymnast Simone Biles for her "positive attitude and distracting flips." Jonah then makes his final choice, Monster Hunter from the video game Monster Hunter to the annoyance of the Bots, so Tom adds Milla Jovovich.

Segment Five: Tom and Crow run their speech backwards to check for evil subliminal messages. Jonah thinks they'll sound either like his Judas Priest albums played backwards or a "deleted scene from Twin Peaks." To the Bots disappointment, when Jonah listens closely, he hears nothing but good advice like "eat your greens". Crow is upset that all their backwards speech is wholesome, but Jonah says that they're "just subliminally a couple of real sweethearts."

Segment Six: The Bots once again bemoan the trauma of watching "Manos", with Tom complaining that his mind is fried and Crow saying he walked through the fire. Jonah thanks the viewers for getting through it with them, saying "we're all in the cult now." Tom wants to know if they're really going to be doing these live events every month for a year. Pearl replies that she has given them all a chance to bond through shared discomfort and confirms to the viewers that she will be subjecting them to these specials all year long. Synthia wants to know about getting tickets for some of her clone friends and Pearl reminds her that she doesn't have any friends before instructing her to push the button.

Madvertisements[]

Sponsors are chosen by M. Waverly, who spins a wheel to choose the sponsor.

Sponsor 1: Bendy (from Joey Drew Studios): The ad copy Jonah reads proclaims Bendy to be innocent and nostalgic. Tom and Crow quickly disabuse him of this notion with innuendo of highly inappropriate content.

Sponsor 2: They Came from Beneath the Sea (from Onyx Path Publishing): Crow wants a half-merman/half-centaur as his character. Jonah opines that it may be too advanced and suggests trying a human character instead. Crow counters by proposing a character that has the upper halves of a merman and a centaur fused together.

Sponsor 3: BearManor Media: Jonah marvels at biographies published by BearManor Media, including such luminaries as Marjoe Gortner and Lee Van Cleef. Tom thinks BearManor should publish his biography and goes full-on Roy Batty.
