LaCasse provided the "cheesy guitar solo" in the song "Cosmic Freight Train" featured in Episode #603.

When they called me in to play guitar, the scene had already been shot. I played along to the video, following Crow’s hands on his tiny guitar. They mixed it as I played it. As far as I know, there is no version without the dialogue… and there probably can’t be.

I played a Japanese-made Maya Stratocaster copy with EMG pickups through a Big Jam Spit Wah pedal, direct into the MST3K mixing board. (I still have the pedal. I sold the guitar to a friend, who gave it to his nephew, who sold it for drugs. Ah, show biz. It’s ok— it had a plywood body and the weather in Minnesota was gradually delaminating it. It was falling apart.)

I was given directions like, “That’s good! Can you make it even more grating?”

Yes. Yes, I can.

And I had my 2 year old daughter Kayla along that day. She was whisked off to the writers room and the writers played with her while we tracked by the soundstage. She had a great time. By the end, they had let Kayla play with the knobs and levers on their video “toaster”, and she messed it up good! And she slept all the way home.
