Brian Blessed
Brian Blessed (born 1936) is a British actor known for his booming voice. He is often cast in the role of bombastic characters, which was particularly exemplified by his portrayal of Prince Vultan in Flash Gordon.
His first prominent television role was as P.C. Smith on Z-Cars. He had reportedly been on the short list of actors considered for replacing William Hartnell on Doctor Who, but he had too many other commitments to accept the role. He would eventually appear on the programme in 1986.
Other notable TV shows on which he appeared include The Avengers, Space: 1999, Blake's 7, and The Black Adder.
Theatrically, he appeared in the original West End run of Cats as Bustopher Jones and Old Deuteronomy.
