Chester Morris (1901-1970) was an American actor best remembered for his portrayal of safecracker gone straight Boston Blackie in fourteen movies released by Columbia, as well as a summer replacement radio series on NBC.
As a teenager, Morris got his start on Broadway and also worked on the Orpheum vaudeville circuit. He later moved onto Hollywood and appeared in several silent films. His first talking picture was the 1929 film Alibi, for which he received a nomination for Best Actor at the Academy Awards. After his final Boston Blackie film, he semi-retired from film acting, mostly doing theater and television guest spots.
