Earl Holliman (born 1928) is an American actor. He has had a long career in films and television.
Among his notable roles, Earl Holliman holds the distinction of having starred in the first broadcast episode of The Twilight Zone (entitled "Where is Everybody?") in which he gave a mostly-solitary performance. He also had a recurring role on the TV western Alias Smith and Jones (opposite Ben Murphy).
Earl Hollimania![]
During the third host segment of Experiment #418, the SOL crew presents "Earl Hollimania!", based on the premise that actor John Ashley resembles a young Earl Holliman.
- Frequent references are made to Holliman's role on the TV drama Police Woman, in which he played Sergeant (later Lieutenant) Bill Crowley for 4 seasons.
- Mention is made of Holliman's co-starring role in the TV sitcom Delta (starring Delta Burke). That series had debuted a few months before Experiment #418 originally aired, but was not successful.
- Tom describes Earl Holliman as "The poor man's Martin Milner". Martin Milner had co-starred on the TV light-drama Route 66 and later played LAPD officer Pete Malloy during all 7 seasons of the TV police procedural Adam-12. He and Earl Holliman had similar career paths.
- Joel comments that Earl Holliman "...would have been William Shatner had there not already been one". This isn't entirely implausible. Holliman co-starred in the science-fiction film Forbidden Planet, which influenced many science-fiction projects that followed it (including Star Trek, which starred Shatner).
- Joel and the 'bots speculate that Earl Holliman seems like he would have appeared on the TV westerns The Big Valley and Lancer at some point, but he did not.
