Backfire! is a 1995 American comedy movie directed and co-written by A. Dean Bell. It is primarily a parody of the firefighter film Backdraft, but it also makes reference to several other popular films of the time including Cliffhanger (starring Sylvester Stallone) Falling Down (starring Michael Douglas), and the Disney animated feature Aladdin.

Plot[]

In a city where firefighters are traditionally women, the idealistic Jeremy Jackson joins the fire department. He is overshadowed my his sister and the memory of his deceased mother, both of whom are known for being heroic firefighters. Despite the obstacles in his way, Jeremy finds love and defeats corruption in the local government.

  • At one point, silhouettes similar to the SOL crew appear on the screen and begin to comment on the action. The silhouettes are then blown off the screen by a fiery explosion.
  • This was the final film role of Telly Savalas.
  • Kathy Ireland had played a similar character in the 1993 comedy film National Lampoon's Loaded Weapon 1.
  • Backfire! was shown on at least one installment of USA Up All Night.
