Forrest J Ackerman (1916-2008) was a pioneer in the early development of science-fiction fandom. Among his credentials:
- Literary agent whose clientele included Ray Bradbury and Isaac Asimov, among others.
- Author of several science-fiction short stories, and editor of an anthology.
- Wrote an origin story of comic book character Vampirella.
- Editor of Famous Monsters of Filmland magazine, as well as a contributor to several other fandom publications.
- Attended the 1939 World Science-Fiction Convention wearing what is widely-considered the first instance of cosplay.
- Maintained a large collection of science-fiction, fantasy, and horror memorabilia in a museum called the Ackermansion, later moved to the Son of Ackermansion.
- An actor in several science-fiction films, primarily bit parts.
