George Reeves (1914-1959) was an American actor best-known for his portrayal of Superman on television. Reeves also appeared in Gone with the Wind and From Here to Eternity.
Reeves died in 1959 of a gunshot wound. It was officially ruled to be a suicide, but the exact circumstances of his death remain the subject of controversy. Reeves was played by Ben Affleck in the film Hollywoodland, which dramatized Reeves' later career struggles and his death.
