Gumby is an animated character created by Art Clokey.

Gumby first appeared on television during the 1950s. Gumby is generally portrayed as a well-meaning child. He lives in a world made out of a child's toy shelves and has the ability to enter storybooks.

  • There is inconsistent reporting about who provided the voice of Gumby in Robot Rumpus. The Wikipedia article about Gumby credits Ruth Eggleston as having voiced the character during 1956 when the short was made. IMDB.com credits Art Clokey as having been the voice of Gumby for that short.
  • "Gumby" was a recurring character on the late-night TV sketch comedy show Saturday Night Live during the 1980s. Played by Eddie Murphy, Gumby was portrayed as a jaded, ill-tempered actor who only maintained his wholesome demeanor when he was performing.
