Jack Elam (1920-2003) was an American actor. His characteristic eye was caused by an injury he suffered at age 12 when another boy threw a pencil during a Boy Scout meeting and it jabbed Jack’s eyeball.
Viewers might recognize him as Jake, the reluctant deputy from the film Support Your Local Sheriff and the perverse "doctor" character that accompanied Burt Reynolds and Dom DeLuise in the movie The Cannonball Run. He later co-starred in the short-lived TV comedy Easy Street with Loni Anderson (who was Burt Reynolds' wife at the time).
