Johann "John" Banner (1910-1973) was an Austrian-born actor who is best remembered for his portrayal of Sergeant Hans Schultz on Hogan's Heroes. Other television shows he appeared on include The Lone Ranger, Alfred Hitchcock Presents, Perry Mason, The Man from U.N.C.L.E., and The Partridge Family.

During Experiment #417, Joel Hodgson, Crow T. Robot and Tom Servo announce the "Banner Gram", a way of sending a message via "the most affable man who ever walked this Earth". Later, at the experiment's conclusion, John Banner appeared via the Hexfield Viewscreen and delivered a "Banner Gram" to Joel and the Bots. His "aggressive niceness" made Crow uncomfortable, so Joel sent a Banner Gram down to The Mads in Deep 13, to the joy of TV's Frank and the horror of Dr. Clayton Forrester.
