Kitten with a Whip is a 1959 novel by Bob Wade and Bill Miller, writing as "Wade Miller". It is the basis for the 1964 film of the same name.

Plot[]

Jody is a beautiful but angry seventeen year-old who escapes from a juvenile detention center. She comes upon the home of David Patton, which she breaks into and falls asleep in the bed of the daughter of the household. Patton, whose wife and daughter are away, discovers Jody and is dragged into her chaotic life. She uses threats of embarrassing David (and her not inconsiderable charms) to keep him cooperative.

Behind-the-scenes[]

  • Wade and Miller were successful novelists, working mostly in the thriller and detective genres. Kitten with a Whip was one of over thirty novels they wrote together and one of several optioned for films.
  • At one point, Mamie Van Doren claimed to have purchased the rights with the intent to star in a film adaptation.[1][2]
  • The film was eventually produced in 1964 starring Ann-Margret and John Forsythe. A tie-in version of the novel, with Ann-Margret on the cover, was released in the same year.
  • The model on the cover of the first edition is actress Tuesday Weld.
