Lloyd Bridges (1913-1998) was an American actor. After a string of largely uncredited parts through the 1930s and early 1940s, he got his first lead role in the 1945 serial Secret Agent X-9. He continued to play leading and supporting roles in a variety of projects ranging from High Noon to Apache Woman (directed by Roger Corman).
In 1958, Bridges starred in the syndicated television series Sea Hunt, which is the source of the line "By that time, my lungs were aching for air" that was frequently referenced on MST3K. He later replaced Pernell Roberts as the lead on the TV series based on San Francisco International. In later years, he focused more on comedy with films such as Airplane! and Hot Shots!.
He was the father of actors Beau Bridges and Jeff Bridges.
