  • "Cousin Oliver!"
Mary Jo correctly identifies child actor Robbie Rist in the commercial for Big John, Little John. Rist played Cousin Oliver, who was added to the cast of the TV sitcom The Brady Bunch in its final six episodes.
  • "He's like the WeWork guy."
WeWork is a company that facilitates different companies using the same office space. WeWork's founder has been praised for being an innovator.
  • "Columbo!"
The disheveled appearance of the mysterious man is similar to that of the rumpled TV police detective Columbo.
  • "That one guy from Green Acres?"
Mary Jo compares the man's appearance to Pat Buttram's character Mr. Haney from the TV sitcom Green Acres. Viewers in the livestream chat later identified who she was thinking of.
  • "Huh. Brady Bunch is on tonight." "She's got Marcia, Marcia, Marcia hair."
The Brady Bunch is a TV sitcom that ceased production in 1974. The oldest daughter was Marcia Brady, who had straight blonde hair like the character in Satan's School for Girls. In one notable episode, Marcia's younger sister Jan complained that she was constantly overshadowed, saying "All I ever hear about is Marcia, Marcia, Marcia!". This line was reproduced in the satirical Brady Bunch Movie in 1995.

It Follows is a 2014 horror movie about a young woman who is approached by the specter of Death, which takes a human form.
  • "We need to get Andrea Canning on this. Or Josh Mankiewicz."
Andrea Canning and Josh Mankiewicz are journalists who appear on the NBC network's investigative TV series Dateline.
  • "Mark my words, I think this is Mount St. Mary in L.A."
Mount St. Mary University is a private Catholic University located north of the affluent Brentwood area of Los Angeles. Approximately ninety per cent of the students are women. It has not been identified as a known filming location for this movie.
  • "She's going undercover, I bet."
Upon identifying actor Kate Jackson, Mary Jo makes an oblique reference to Jackson's role on the TV action series Charlie's Angels, in which Jackson's character would often be sent to infiltrate some criminal enterprise while using an assumed identity.
  • "Do you think it's a John Singer Sargent?"
John Singer Sargent was a painter who specialized in portraits. He was born in Italy in 1856 and died in London, England in 1925. His original works are valued in the millions of dollars. The Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, Massachusetts (near Salem, where the movie is set) has a large collection of his paintings.
  • "Leo Sayres..."
Leo Sayer is a singer-songwriter who had several hit songs in the mid-to-late 1970s.
  • "Eight IS enough..."
Eight is Enough is a light-drama TV series that starred Dick Van Patten as the father of a family with eight children.
  • "Gob Bluth..."
Gob (short for George Oscar Bluth) is the oldest son on the TV comedy Arrested Development. He is a semi-professional illusionist.
