The Mystery Science Theater 3000 Wiki is devoted to the comedy science fiction television series Mystery Science Theater 3000, wherein a human host and two accompanying robots mock "cheesy movies". This wiki aims to be a definitive resource on MST3K, with articles on episodes, characters, skits, recurring jokes, actors and performers in the series. We have recently expanded to also cover later riffing projects, including those from MST3K alumni and fan productions.

Please pay attention to the guideline below and particularly to the rules.

Article Guidelines[]

The following are guidelines for various types of articles on the wiki:

Episodes[]

"Episode" articles exist for all episodes of MST3K. Titles of those articles follow a basic pattern: "MST3K XXX - Title of Movie", for instance, MST3K K10 - Cosmic Princess.

Attention is to be paid to other riffing projects that have direct links to MST3K. So, Cinematic Titanic, RiffTrax, The Film Crew, The Mads Are Back, and Movie Jo Night are all legitimate areas for coverage. Articles about individual episodes/releases/productions from those various projects (and any that may spring up in the future) are encouraged. At this time, RiffTrax is the only MST-related riffing project for which we do not document every release. Although fan productions will receive an article about the entire production, no individual episode pages should be created.

Titles follow a similar pattern as MST3K episodes, each with their own code. Here are some examples of the major episode types used by the wiki:

Mystery Science Theater 3000 Live - MST3KL e.g. MST3KL - Argoman the Fantastic Superman
Mystery Science Theater 3000 Short - MST3K SHORT e.g. MST3K SHORT - Assignment: Venezuela or MST3K SHORT 13.01 - Pipeline to the Clouds
Cinematic Titanic - CT e.g. CT - Santa Claus Conquers the Martians
The Film Crew - TFC e.g. TFC - Hollywood After Dark
The Mads Are Back - MADS e.g. MADS - Glen or Glenda
Movie Jo Night - MJN e.g. MJN - The Day My Kid Went Punk
Mike Nelson Commentaries - MNC e.g. MNC - Carnival of Souls
RiffTrax - RT e.g. RT - The Galaxy Invader
RiffTrax Live - RTL e.g. RTL - MST3K Reunion Show
RiffTrax Presents Bridget & Mary Jo - BMJ e.g. BMJ - Cat-Women of the Moon

A format to follow for any new episode article can be found at Sample MST3K Episode Listing. Relevant terms can be changed for other projects.

People[]

Articles about any performer/production crew member who has worked on MST3K or any legacy project are acceptable.

Articles about any actor/director/etc. who worked on a film used on Mystery Science Theater 3000 are acceptable. Preference should be given to "starring" actors or actors of note. Articles about stuntmen and background performers should be avoided.

As the focus of the wiki has expanded, greater leeway now exists for including articles on performers/creators from movies or other media used in RiffTrax or other projects. The same guidelines apply as for MST3K, but should be even more stringent when it comes to making sure only principle (or independently notable) contributors are included.

Films[]

There should be a separate article for each movie (or short, serial chapter or TV episode) that is featured on MST3K or projects that we fully document. Articles about RiffTrax movies should be limited to films that are regularly referenced on MST3K itself. So, The Wizard of Oz is fine, but (unless it is regularly referenced in future episodes), we don't need an article about The Matrix.

Film article titles should follow the format Title of Movie (film), Title of Short (short) or Title of Serial (serial) to differentiate them from the riffed versions. Films that have not been riffed in their entirety should still carry the clarifier for the sake of consistency. Television shows and specials do not currently require a clarifier, nor does Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Movie.

A format to follow for any new film article can be found at Sample Film Listing.

Characters[]

Any character who appears on Mystery Science Theater 3000 or in an MST-branded product can have a page, no matter how obscure.

Characters from movies should only include those who are either referenced regularly on MST3K, have been portrayed by an actor on the show itself, or interact with the characters (such as those from Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Comic). So, Glenn Manning and Black Cat are fine, but not Diabolik. For disambiguation purposes, use "(character)", as in Santa Claus (character) when necessary.

Real-world people who are also characters on the show do not require separate articles. Their pages should have an initial paragraph featuring real-world information, followed by an "MST3K" section where they are treated like any other character on the show. A "Behind-the-Scenes" section can give additional real-world details and context on their usage on the show.

For character bios, any material produced or authorized by the owners of the MST3K IP can be considered canonical. Appearances of characters outside officially-produced material (such as Bot cameos or something like Live from Deep 13) can be referenced in Behind-the-Scenes sections, but not as a part of the character's biography.

Other[]

Other types of media are acceptable for articles and most have an infobox associated with their type. Examples include:

Media Guidelines[]

Images[]

To make certain we stay within the principles of fair use, non-public-domain images should be limited to lower resolutions, particularly artwork or DVD/Blu-ray/album covers. Images should, whenever possible, not exceed 600 pixels in width or 900 pixels in height. JPG format is highly recommended, unless there is a valid need for another file type. Please aim to keep image files under 150kb for faster loading.

Videos[]

Due to the fact that Youtube videos can go down or be set to "private" at any time without warning (and, unlike web pages, are unlikely to be archived), please do not add Youtube videos to articles either as references or as illustrations.

Rules of the Wiki[]

As of April 1, 2021, all Fandom (formerly Wikia) wikis must have a set of rules in place. The following rules must be followed on the MST3K wiki:

  1. Keep it civil: Do not make personal attacks on other people. If you need to criticize another user’s argument, do so without attacking them as a person. Do not use bigoted language, including slurs which degrade another person or group of people based on gender, race, sexual orientation, nationality, religion, political affiliation, etc.
  2. Be a productive member of the wiki: Contribute to the wiki in line with the established processes and conventions. Need help? Send me a message. Disrupting the wiki with "edit warring" over differing opinions of a topic with another user or group of users is not productive.
  3. Do not engage in excessive self-promotion: The wiki is a collaborative community resource for the topic at hand. It is NOT a free place to advertise your related website, YouTube channel, blog, social media account, etc. Have a question about whether your link or content would be welcome? Send me a message.
  4. Do not harass other users: If somebody asks you to stop posting certain content on their wall, respect their wishes. It is their wall.
  5. Do follow community guidelines for formatting: Most types of pages on the wiki have a standard format. It is important to adhere to these formats.
