Synopsis[]

Prologue: The Pretty Lady emerges from the Time Bag, towing a version of the Satellite of Love. Kinga and Synthia are eager to see which former host Dr. Erhardt has brought. It's Joel Robinson.

Segment One (Invention Exchange): Joel explains that he is from the year 3000. He and Dr. Erhardt re-connect, and Joel explains that his 'bots were on a spacewalk when his Satellite was taken. Dr. Erhardt departs, and Kinga and Synthia decide to use Emily's versions of the 'Bots for Joel's experiment. For the Invention Exchange, Kinga and Max present Electric Lassos. Joel explains that it's an old idea. Joel's invention is a modification of Tom Servo to give him a Mood Globe head.

Segment Two: The SOL Crew presents an episode of the sitcom Feers, set in a demon-friendly bar.

Segment Three: Joel adjusts Tom Servo's voice back to its original setting.

Segment Four: Pearl contacts the SOL, and is a bit disappointed to learn that her son Clayton never mentioned his family to Joel. The crew's thankful for Movie Sign to escape the awkwardness of the conversation.

Segment Five: Joel and the 'Bots do a demon-themed improv show.

Segment Six: The 'Bots tell Joel what snacks they'd like him to have available the next time they visit, then get taken back to the Simulator by Pearl and Synthia. Kinga and Max promote their new improv training center.

Cowboy Bebop is a science fiction anime series. "Cowboy" is a nickname for bounty hunters, while Bebop is the name of the main characters' ship.
  • "So this is what it sounds like when owls fight..."
A play on the refrain of the song "When Doves Cry" by Prince.
  • "Oh, Dagwood!"
Dagwood Bumstead is the husband of the character Blondie in the long-running newspaper comic strip of the same name.
  • "And exit Scary Bradshaw."
Carrie Bradshaw is the main character on the TV comedy Sex and the City, which has had multiple incarnations (including films). She has wavy blonde hair.
  • "Here, grunge Moneypenny..."
Miss Moneypenny is a character in the James Bond franchise. She is typically depicted as the extremely competent assistant to Bond's superior, and, in the films, she has a flirtatious relationship with Bond.
  • "Pretty neat, Hellboy."
Hellboy is a supernatural character that first appeared in comic books before being adapted into films several times. He has demonic origins, but fights to protect the world from evil threats.
  • "You win again, Carmen Sandiego."
Carmen Sandiego is the main character in a franchise that includes computer games and television series. She initially appeared as a daring thief in a computer game designed to teach players about geography. She is usually depicted wearing a red overcoat and wide-brimmed hat.
  • "You rang?"
This line was often said by Lurch, the physically-imposing butler of The Addams Family.
  • "It belongs in a museum!"
A quote from the adventuring archaeologist character Indiana Jones, who disapproved of those who would claim relics and sell them for personal profit.
  • "Pat Benatar says it's authentic!"
The signature on the document is close to the name of musician Pat Benatar, who had hits with several songs including "Love Is a Battlefield", "Hit Me with Your Best Shot", and "Shadows of the Night".
  • "How much did your father pay for this?" "Just over one-hundred-thousand." "-Dogecoin."
Dogecoin is a type of cryptocurrency.

Callbacks[]

  • Joel mentions that Dr. Erhardt no longer has a high-pitched voice, and Larry briefly reverts.
  • The first thing Tom says after Joel changes his voice is "Happy birthday!". This was also the first thing that Kevin Murphy said as Tom at the beginning of Episode #201.

  • This is the first appearance of the character Joel Robinson in an episode proper since Episode #1001, and the first time he riffed a feature-length movie in the theater since Episode #512.
  • Josh Weinstein performs as Tom Servo in an episode proper for the first time since Episode #113.
  • This is the first episode in which the voice actor for one of the 'bots changes during the episode.
  • The doorway sequence is an animated re-creation of the version from Joel's era (Season 1 to Season 5).
  • Though Pearl was directing the Experiments when Joel visited the SOL in Episode #1001, she and Joel did not interact, which could explain why Joel does not recognize her.
  • Ardy and Bonesy have a brief conversation about who Joel is, referencing that both Ardy and Joel are played by the same actor.
  • Like the previous episode, Jonah Ray does not appear on screen as Jonah Heston, but is present behind the camera as the episode's director.

The Premiere[]

Like all episodes of Season 13, a live-streamed Premiere Event was held for Episode #1306. It has a runtime of 2 hours and 59 minutes (including prelude, Madvertisements, and intermission).

The episode was interrupted for the following Madvertisements (the same ones used in the Premiere for Experiment #1302:

  • BearManor Media: Tom Servo admires all of the scripts published by BearManor Media, including Bride of the Monster and The Brute Man. Crow announces the submission of his own script, which sounds awfully similar to This Island Earth.
  • Bendy (from Joey Drew Studios): Jonah informs the Bots that because Joey Drew Studios enjoyed their last Bendy commercial so highly, they would be receiving free Bendy merchandise. Tom insists that the correct term for licensed merchandise given out for free is swag. Jonah concurs, recalling the time a Red Hot Chili Peppers roadie offered him some excess t-shirts. Meanwhile, Crow continues his avaricious gloating over the licensed goodies coming his way.
  • Onyx Path Publishing: Jonah is the GM for a session of They Came from Beneath the Sea. Tom believes the creature they face should be a 90-foot-tall Dolemite.

Following the episode there was a discussion hosted by Matt McGinnis and featuring Joel Hodgson, Josh Weinstein, and Emily Marsh. Matt, Joel, and Emily were later joined by Demon Squad writer/director Thomas Smith and writer/actor Erin Lilley Smith.
