Since that page is a work-in-progress, I wasn't going to add any categories (except "Christmas", which was more of a test, since it didn't exist previously), but I saw that you added "James Bond Spoofs". What's the justification? Darth Prefect (talk) 02:30, January 27, 2015 (UTC)
I think something like a riff is better served through a list such as List of 007 riffs or something like that. Categories should be left for "big ticket" items like episodes with movies that are parodies, spoofs or emulators of Bond ("Double 007", "Super Dragon") or episodes with host segments inspired by Bond ("Rex Dart, Eskimo Spy").
As for the duplication, please see my message in the Community Portal.Darth Prefect (talk) 04:00, January 27, 2015 (UTC)
Right now, each time I search for SC Conquers the Martians, I notice that there's both the original episode page and the 321 redirected page but they're both separate as opposed to renamed. Can we fix this or should we just retitle the original page "RiffTrax Live!: SC Conquers the Martians"? or even rename the other page that's just been created so we don't have to relink all the other links for the original MST3k episode?
Could you hold up on creating all those pages for minor actors and stunt performers? Particularly ones who have never appeared in any MST episodes. I think we should backburner these kinds of side-entries of minor actors from spin-off media until we have a fully-formed guide to MST3K, which is what I think readers will be expecting. For instance, there are many actors who appeared in mulitple Gamera/other Japanese films on MST but do not yet have pages. Darth Prefect (talk) 17:19, January 26, 2015 (UTC)
Also, I do agree that anyone in a MST3k film is of greater importance. For instance, if someone who played multiple roles in one MST3k production, they have greater importance then, say, someone who was in various roles for one CT or RiffTrax film.
I'm also not going to upload anything relating to Sharknado since those are stretching the formula. They're not unintentionally amusing and are intentionally being awful. RiffTrax truly stretched it on that front.
I want to bring to your attention that I will be using the MST3K:Community Portal as a place to discuss changes / goals for the wiki. Please feel free to comment there or raise any issues you may feel are important to the wiki as a whole.
Thanks for your contributions and let's all try to make this a better and more useful resource! Darth Prefect (talk) 05:49, January 24, 2015 (UTC)
Thanks for bringing new life to this wikia; the new background is something all the creators and crewmembers would be proud of for sure. Reminds me of what I did with the Saving Private Ryan wikia, just added life to it as opposed to let the generic background be there.
I've been converting all my recorded episodes to DVDs and I know a few more shows that pop up often. Green Acres is mentioned in Viking Women and one episode I can't recall and Married w Children in two or more episodes. The line "Damn you dirty ape" from Planet of the Apes also pops up a lot - Thor2000 (talk) 19:39, January 21, 2015 (UTC)
I'll do my best - my memory of the show may not be as good as others. Sidebar, if you want an expanded bio on Glenn Langan, I've got one for him here on my Gilligan Island site: http://gilligan.wikia.com/wiki/Glenn_Langan
The current admins are clearly not active anymore, so I wanted to let people who have been active here recently know that unless there's some objection, I will be putting in to "adopt" this wiki. Darth Prefect (talk) 01:42, January 16, 2015 (UTC)
I think we only need one additional admin at this time. The guys at Wikia say we should settle this between us. As I am more than willing to focus on infrastructure, I think I should take on that role. You can better help by continuing to add content. Is that acceptable? If I feel I need more help down the road, I would then be able to add you to the admins at that time. Darth Prefect (talk) 14:11, January 16, 2015 (UTC)
If we aren't going to split them up (and I feel we should), we still should not call all riffed movies "MST-ied", since that's not a typical term and they weren't all on MST3K. Darth Prefect (talk) 20:29, January 15, 2015 (UTC)
That's fine- if they're all RiffTrax or Cinematic Titanic episodes, we can say riffed; if it's all from the original show, we say MST-ied, if it's half and half, we can use either one as long as we're trying to be consistent with all the other factors.
Overall, people keep proposing a split when so many of the same riffers and movie actors appear in both and the formula is basically the same so after awhile it seems rather unusual to suggest separating them both completely.
Well, this is the Mystery Science Theater 3000 wiki, so I think movies actually used on the show should be featured ahead of (and with significantly more attention than) movies *not* featured on the show. I don't even think we should be covering actors who never appeared in a movie on the show. I think it takes it too far outside the point of the wiki. But I'm an inclusionist at heart, so if people want to put those pages here even if they were only in spin-off productions, so be it. Darth Prefect (talk) 01:32, January 16, 2015 (UTC)
I don't see the issue as long as it's a project related to MST3k in some fashion and not a random bad movie reviewer's web show or something that none of the MST3k crew worked on. Since so many people follow what the crew is up to now and are referencing many segments/similar riffs/the same movies from MST3k days in their material, I just see no harm.
Of course there's no *harm*. It's a wiki. But I think there needs to be an effort to make this a better repository of information. There needs to be more standardization of what is considered valid and categorization of that material so the casual reader can tell one project from another. It's something I hope to address (particularly with the article titles) with a proposal soon. Darth Prefect (talk) 04:36, January 16, 2015 (UTC)
Yes, all of that as well. Tomorrow I'm going to officially request to be given admin status from Wikia. Hopefully, that will go through quickly, then I will set up a place where we can hash out all the stuff we'd all like to do to help this wiki be its best. Darth Prefect (talk) 04:57, January 16, 2015 (UTC)
I've tried several time to invite various members of all the various MST3k/CT/RiffTrax Facebook groups over here and despite them referencing or quoting us, they don't appear to have decided to donate any information to here which is a shame.
Do you think we should try linking this wikia to any MST3k fan sites that still exist just to keep the traffic going for those info clubs as well?
I think one area we can expand is a "List of MST3K web sites". We should cover the Satellite News, the official Site, MST3K Temple... Things like that. The lesser ones can just get a link. The bigger ones can be written up, like the Digital Archive Project. (Although that one needs updating.) Darth Prefect (talk) 05:12, January 16, 2015 (UTC)
Yeah, the Digital Archive is confusing to me since back around '08 or '09, they stopped having users upload/share the works on Google Video and now it's mainly a forum with torrents and such. I believe they also removed some of the episodes to avoid copyright issues so now the main circulation is through users who have those downloaded recordings in some format.
Thanks for adding the categories. Curious as to why you would include the "Collections" category on the Blu-ray and Laserdisc pages, since there are no Blu-ray or Laserdisc collections, only individual releases. Darth Prefect (talk) 18:42, December 22, 2014 (UTC)
I didn't create the category but I think it works alright for now. Each release other than the movie or VHS releases basically are just collections but since we're often listing all the releases and we still have all of the "Tom Servo's favorite host segments" to list (if we ever do that is), I think it pans out.
Well, there are still regular individual releases from Shout!, not to mention the Rifftrax DVDs. (And, on the other hand, there were several VHS collections.)
My suggestion would be to create a new category such as the one I suggested, but keep using "Collections" for more appropriate items. There aren't *that* many items that would need changing, after all.
