Original packaging for the "20th Anniversary Edition"

Mystery Science Theater 3000: The 20th Anniversary Edition is a DVD box set released by Shout! Factory. It was released on December 2, 2008.

This set features one episode hosted by Joel and three hosted by Mike.

Initial copies of the "20th Anniversary Edition" are packaged in a metal tin. Inside the tin is a carboard box/sleeve with four individual slim DVD cases, each with individual episode-specific artwork. Also in the package are four mini-posters that utilized the same artwork as the DVD cases and a figurine of Crow T. Robot. Subsequent re-releases eliminate the tin and the figurine.

This set is notable for several reasons:

  • After the previous twelve sets (or thirteen, depending on how you count) were released by Rhino Entertainment, this set marked the first MST3K release from Shout!
  • This set is the thirteenth four-disc set of original episodes, but Shout opted not to label this set as "Volume 13". When numbering continued with the next set, it was dubbed Volume XIV, switching to Roman numerals.
  • The title of the collection was also changed, as Rhino's titling "The Mystery Science Theater 3000 Collection" was dropped.
  • The three-part "The History of MST3K", available as an extra in this set, marked the first appearance of KTMA-era footage on DVD.
  • The set was released in Australia by Beyond in a single four-disc DVD case with slipcover. None of the additional material was included.
