Nathan Juran (1907-2002) was an Austrian-born filmmaker who had previously been an architect. When the Great Depression caused construction work to fall off, he moved to Hollywood, where he ended up being employed as an art director. In 1942, he won an Oscar for his art direction in How Green Was My Valley. In the 1950s, he started working as a full director. Most of these efforts were B films, the best-known of these being Attack of the 50 Foot Woman (starring Allison Hayes).
