Richard Carlson (1912-1977) was an American actor. He appeared in several notable genre films, including The Creature from the Black Lagoon and It Came from Outer Space. He also had regular roles on the TV series I Led 3 Lives and Mackenzie's Raiders.

Mr. Carlson was born in Minnesota, the residence of the many of the MST3K/Rifftrax crew. This earned him the affection of Bridget Nelson and Mary Jo Pehl, who often referred to him as "Hollywood actor Richard Carlson" in their riffs of his movies.

Notes[]

  • A heavily-edited version of It Came from Outer Space (produced by Castle Films) was used in 2019's RiffTrax Presents: Bridget and Mary Jo's Halloween Safety and Monster Movie Mash-up. Despite the shortened length of the feature, Richard Carlson is still a central figure.
  • Richard Carlson played the murderer in a 1960 episode of the TV anthology mystery series The Chevy Mystery Show entitled "Enough Rope". This episode featured the first television appearance of the police detective character Lt. Columbo (played by Bert Freed). Carlson would therefore technically qualify as a Columbo Villain Actor.
