The Genesis of the Bonanza Page[]
You might wonder why I made this page ... or maybe not ... but it just started when I was telling a friend that I knew there were lyrics to the Bonanza theme. A tidbit I gleamed from the Michell skit with the bots on pogo sticks. It made me wonder just how many threads you could string between the 2 shows.
Incidentally, Gunsmoke (20 years - 635 episodes) has been around longer that Bonanza (14 years - 430). So, there would probably be more character connections, but I just don't remember a lot of references to the show. Maybe there are a lot of them ... I just don't know them. I would prefer Rawhide (*whip*).
For another page like this to work, I would think it would have to be a scripted, but non-soap opera, show. Also, one that the Joel/Mike and the Bots like to reference. Seems, that certain genres would be better than others, i.e. action and sci-f. I wouldn't suggest Star Trek (but I wouldn't vote against it), because it doesn't seem to get that many MST3K references. More noticeable considering the corresponding demographic between the two shows. Some suggestions:
- Mannix (Of Course!)
- McCloud (Same, premise here...)
- Baretta
- The Rockford Files
- Lost in Space
- Doctor Who
- Barnaby Jones
- Hawaii Five-O
- Hardcastle and McCormick
- The Fugitive
- MacGyver
- T.J. Hooker
- The Incredible Hulk
- Charlie's Angels
- Police Woman
- Greatest American Hero (Also has theme references just like Bonanza)
- Bionic Woman/Six Million Dollar Man
- The Love Boat
- The Jeffersons
- Love, American Style ( - not sure how many references for it)
- Three's Company
- Quincy M.E.
